Requirements
We work in all weather. Our tasks are often done in rain or excessive heat, with bugs, snakes, tall weeds, or mud up to your knees.
Good physical condition is required as you will be expected to lift up to 50 pounds, sometimes repeatedly.
Sustained standing, squatting, kneeling, stooping, and bending periods should be expected and welcomed.
Workshare members will also be expected to abide by all farm policies that apply to regular employees.
This expectation includes, but is not limited to:
No alcohol/tobacco use on the premises, no cell phone use, being on-time for your shift, and wearing/bringing what you need to complete your tasks.
FAQ
-
Each morning you will report to Rebecca and sign in like a regular employee of Titus Farms. Rebecca will give you further direction about the tasks that must be completed that day.
Jobs include every aspect of vegetable production but are frequently tailored to physical ability. We tend to break things down into two categories: shed and field.
Shed Tasks: washing, bagging, counting, and sorting vegetables or sterilizing equipment. Those who work in "the packing shed" are expected to stand on concrete, often in one place, for their shift. Conditions are much cooler, but demands can be more meticulous but less physically demanding.
Field Tasks: weeding, trellising, transplanting, or harvesting. Those who work in the field are expected to be prepared to work in all conditions. Rebecca will give you a short tutorial along with a goal to reach for that shift. You will often be working alongside Rebecca or a crew.
Often, Working Shares get a little taste of both of these environments.

Most people haven't ever done farm work; besides, every farm is different.
Each job will be explained. You need to be able to listen, follow directions and embrace our spirit of constant improvement.
Mastering the art of chatting while keeping busy will be the first task :)

We require that one person commits per season to receive on-farm training.
Sending a replacement is not appreciated.
-
No. Children under the age of 13 are not permitted to come to the farm with a workshare while they are working.
Older children may volunteer at the farm; however, their time spent helping will not be counted towards the adult workshare’s hourly requirement. This may be adjusted on an individual basis.
Fur babies are often a food safety hazard, so we do no allow pets.
-
You can make up your shift at another time. You can do this by working double shifts in one week.
Please warn us if you’ll be absent, just as you would a regular job.
-
No, most likely not. We do farm work during the day, especially the morning, during the work week.
Our hope is that Working Shareholders develop a special connection with the farm and farmers and other workers, along with a deeper appreciation and understanding of sustainable vegetable production.
