I thought I’d share a picture of the joyful seed sorting I did during spring break. I actually threw everything on my parents bed, which they appreciated, since we didn’t have a big enough table. Then I sorted them into categories based on planting time and seed variety, while taking inventory of everything.
We buy quite a lot of seeds each year, from many sources- you can see the Johnny’s box along with the Harris box. I would definitely try Johnny’s Selected Seeds for really great varieties and consumer friendly quantities. They’re from Maine, so beware the shipping costs, but for us… it’s worth it.
We’ve actually already seeded some of the most delicate things in the greenhouse- like the snapdragons. While the snapdragon plant itself is pretty tough, the seeds are tiny! I mean the point of a pen tiny, and pitch black, so you can’t see them against the soil- it took Paul and myself almost 2 hours to seed 2000 seeds. That’s not bad, but we had to take breaks, focusing on something that tiny can really take a toll on your eyes. Whew, I’m glad that’s done… now onto the rest of the big pile on the bed!
