What is CSA?

  1. Our community of supporters each purchase a “share” of the farm’s harvest;  from roughly early spring to fall they receive a weekly allotment of items from our farm (or other farms). If you'd like to learn more about our program see the New to CSA? page.

Missed CSA Distributions

  1. For non-emergencies (vacations, etc.) here are your options:

  2. 1. Find a friend to pick up the vegetables for you. The person just has to mention your last name at distribution. It often helps to explain the process to them a little as well.

  3. 2. Arrange for a make-up share. This option has rules attached and it can only be done twice.

  4. We ask for a one week notice prior to the missed distribution (just tell us at distribution and we’ll write it down). You can make up the missed share within two weeks of returning. The week you “make-up” your share, you take double your normal amount, e.g. a person with a Standard share would take a Large share.

  5.     Please contact us about long vacations, we’re usually fairly flexible.

  6. For emergencies:

  7.      Just contact us sometime after the missed distribution and we’ll arrange for an alternative pick-up. This may include receiving a double share the next week or picking up your share at another distribution site. Please try to give us some warning of when you’ll be picking up the make-up share, especially if you have any additional shares (eggs, meat etc.)

  8. In any case, it is your responsibility to make arrangements for any missed shares and your responsibility to remember to redeem your make-up share in the time allowed. We usually try to remind you, but we can forget too.

How to Join

  1. Download the Membership Form from our "Become a Member" page and send it in with check payment. Once we've received your information, we will send you a confirmation email. Later in the spring you'll receive a reminder email approximately 1-2 weeks before the first distribution. Then, all you have to do is show up to distribution with your name and a bag!

What's Included in a Share? Do you grow fruit?

  1. A Large, Standard or EOW Veggie Share includes an assortment of edibles from our farm. We grow a variety of veggies, a list of which can be found on the Become a Member page. We do grow a few small fruit crops including spring strawberries, muskmelons, watermelons and raspberries. These fruit are included in the Veggie Share. Flowers are included in a separate Flower Share and ornamental items are usually not distributed through the CSA.

  2. If you’re interested in receiving blueberries, peaches or apples, then please see details about the Conventional or Organic Apple share on the Become a Member page. The Fruit-We-Don’t-Grow Share is grown by Country Mill but is distributed with your veggie share.

  3. Of course, due to the nature of farming, we can’t guarantee any amount of any product. We’ve got a lot of experience growing and we try hard to make sure you receive a great range and amount of goodies.

What Share should I Buy?

  1. We feature 3 sizes of vegetable shares to fit the needs of many families. Of course, it helps to think about the eating habits of your family. Here are some questions it might help to ask yourself:

  2. How often are we going to eat at home this summer?

  3. How many vegetables do we eat at a meal? Is there always a vegetable on the table? Do I want to eat more veggies?

  4. Do I have any picky eaters?

  5. Are there vegetables that my family will simply refuse to eat?

  6. Are there any food allergies that will impact what I can take home?

  7. How much do I want to go to the farmers market this summer?

  8. Will I be growing a garden?

  9. Here are the Share Types we Feature:

  10. Large Share:

  11. Enough for larger families (two adults and two older children) who consume vegetables moderately. Or it's great for two vegetarians, who are also moderate vegetable eaters. This share size is usually split between two families.

  12. Standard Share:

  13. This share is recommended for smaller families who eat vegetables moderately or larger families who eat vegetables less often or have very picky eaters. Also, this is a nice share size to try if you want to test the CSA concept. Of course you can always buy extra at the farmers market. This is the most popular choice.

  14. Every-Other-Week Share:

  15. This is a Standard Share of veggies that is picked up on alternating weeks. EOW shares are a great choice for single people who eat vegetables often or couples who are moderate vegetable eaters. It’s also nice for people who just want to supplement their garden, with a few goodies now and then.

Can we Switch our Distribution Site?

  1. Yes and No

  2. You cannot pick-up your share at random locations throughout the season without warning. But, once you’ve chosen your site, if you move or your job or schedule has changed, we want to make it easier for you to retrieve your veggies. Please contact us at least 2 weeks in advance of switching sites. But we would like to avoid members frequently switching locations.

Are you Organic? What Does that Mean Anyway?

  1. Excellent question! The meaning of organic is often misused or misunderstood. Farming organically is using intensive agricultural management techniques and alternative methods. It DOES NOT mean “no pesticides.” Organic farmers are allowed to use pesticides, herbicides and fungicides- but the kind that they use is much less toxic to the environment. Organic farmers are also not allowed to use genetically engineered crops or synthetic fertilizers, along with a host of other petroleum based products.

  2.     The politics of “Organic” is a little complicated. Organic really means that you are certified by an independent agency under the National Organic Program (NOP) run by the USDA. The word Organic is actually a copyright and only those who are certified under the rules of the NOP are allowed to use the word along with the green seal you see at the grocery store. Becoming certified usually involves extensive record keeping, coupled with good management, but also a large fee.

  3.     It is the fees which make it difficult for us to become certified. So are we certified organic? No. Do we utilize the methods of organic farmers? Yes, because we believe passionately in sustainability. We use ONLY organically approved chemicals that are derived from natural sources, do not use GMOs, and utilize virtually every other technique- but we don’t certify with the government.

  4. If you have more questions or comments please contact us.

How do we Split a Veggie Share?

  1. Members are welcome to split shares with a separate family.  It’s not necessary to “split” with a spouse, this option is really just for separate families who want to take on fees independently or people who want to come to distribution separately. Just note this split on your form.

  2. However, it is your responsibility to find a share partner. As share partners you are each responsible for your part of the membership fee, but, if one of you no longer takes part in the CSA or cancels their payment, the remaining partner is still responsible for all fees. But having a share partner is often nice if you’re planning on going on vacation; they can take your share when you’re gone, and vice-versa when they go on vacation.

  3. When Splitting a Large Share: The two families do not have to come to distribution together. At distribution each share partner follows the directions for a Standard Share and can pick their own items.

  4. When Splitting a Standard Share: This is not advised, but if you’d like to split a standard share then you each come on alternating weeks. But, you cannot come to separate locations!

  5. When Splitting an EOW Share: This is no longer allowed.
